Altbier is a traditional german pub ale made famous in Dusseldorf, Germany. Dark copper in color, our classic Altbier balances a malty base and clean hop finish, featuring all German malt and hops in an easy-drinking beer that’s perfect for any occasion.

5% ABV • 35 IBU

Saturday, January 18, 12-10pm

Earl Grey Brown Ale is back! This annual tradition is a collaboration beer between Ardent Craft Ales and Potter's Craft Cider, and we're bringing it back for the 6th year in a row on Saturday, January 18.

For this release, we're throwing an all-day party and featuring four different Potter’s ciders on tap in Ardent's taproom! Plus, Zorch Pizza will be back in the beer garden cooking up their awesome pizzas all day.

Earl Grey Brown Ale is a classic, malt-forward English brown ale brewed with Rostov's Earl Grey tea. Fragrant citrus aromatics complement flavors of black tea and bergamot in this balanced, light-bodied beer.

6.5% ABV • 20 IBU

Available on draft in the taproom beginning Saturday
Available in 4-packs of 12 oz. bottles to go beginning Sunday

Please note that due to the special ABC permit required to sell alcohol produced by another manufacturer, we will not be able to sell any beer to-go on Saturday. Earl Grey 4-packs and all the rest of our usual packaged products will be available again beginning Sunday.

POTTER’S CIDERS

Farmhouse Dry (8.5%)
Pale gold and effervescent with pronounced fruit aroma hinting of peach and melon. Bright acidity with aromatic intensity from Gold Rush, Albemarle Pippin, and Old Virginia Winesap apples.

Strawberry Ginger (6.9%)
The flavor and aroma from ripe strawberries balances the tart acidity of an aromatic blend of Virginia apples with the lively spice of fresh ginger. It is bright, fruit forward and flavorful with zero grams of residual sugar.

Flemish Sour (9%)
The Flemish Sour starts with a blend of fresh-pressed Virginia apples inoculated with the famous Roeselare yeast blend. This yeast, which is traditionally used in the production of Flemish Red Ales, is so named for the town of Roselare in Belgium and home to the famed Rodenbach Brewery that is credited with the creation of this wonderful yeast. The cider is fermented and aged in French oak barrels. It then receives a hefty dose of tart Montmorency cherries, adding a definitively tart, fruity note to this dry, funky cider.

Highland (9%)
This Goldrush single varietal cider is aged in Virginia Highland Malt Whisky barrels from Virginia Distillery Company. The bright, acidic fruit character is balanced with aromas of vanilla, caramelized sugar, and a light smokiness reminiscent of single malt scotch.

’Tis the season… for holiday beer! We’ve got a special pilot batch of Winter Warmer with mulling spices coming to the taproom on Friday and The Valentine on Sunday.

Winter Warmer was brewed with nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger, and allspice alongside honey malt and brown sugar. The malty residual sweetness is balanced by the addition of East Kent Golding, the quintessential English hop. Winter Warmer tastes like Christmas in a glass!

Winter Warmer is being released in the taproom on Friday, December 7, with representatives from The Valentine onsite to answer all your questions about Richmond’s 400-year history.

Then from 12-5 on Sunday, December 9, join Danny as he pours Winter Warmer during Court End Christmas at The Valentine, featuring children’s activities, carriage rides, performances, refreshments, gift shops, music and tours, as well as free admission to a number of downtown historic sites. 1015 East Clay Street

Old Molasses Ale: history, science & beer!

Ardent Craft Ales and the John Marshall House, a Preservation Virginia historic site, are teaming up for a weekend of history, science, and beer!

We brewed a special historical beer to celebrate John Marshall’s birthday. Plus, we’re excited for the opportunity to extract yeast from a bottle of Madeira that’s remained preserved in the John Marshall House cellar for hundreds of years, and hopefully use it to brew a modern day beer using the same historical strain!

First, join us in the taproom at 4 p.m. on Friday, September 21, when we’ll introduce our latest pilot brew: Old Molasses Ale. This beer was based on a recipe from John Marshall’s cousin, Mary Randolph, that she brewed in the late 1700s and featured a late addition of molasses in the boil. Representatives from the John Marshall House will also be on hand.

On Saturday, September 22, Ardent heads downtown for a day of history, science, and beer! We’ll be serving Old Molasses Ale at the John Marshall House, which is opening up its doors for free admission to mark Time Travelers Weekend. In addition to touring the house and learning about John Marshall, keep an eye out for scientists demonstrating how we hope to capture yeast from bottles of Madeira that have been preserved in the cellar.

The John Marshall House will be open 10am-5pm on Saturday:

John Marshall, a Richmond native, was the longest-serving Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and is largely responsible for establishing the modern influence of the court. He was also quite fond of Madeira, a Portuguese wine that he shared enthusiastically with friends at his Richmond home.

Bohemian Pilsner is back! Join us TOMORROW, Thursday, May 24 for the release. #neverstoplagering

Our brewers love drinking lagers, and they’re excited to brew a classic European style right here in RVA. Bohemian Pilsner is a traditional Czech pilsner, brewed with a simple recipe of Czech floor malt, Saaz hops, and a Czech lager yeast. Bo Pils pours a clear golden color with soft mouthfeel, spicy hop notes, and clean finish.

Lucy's Burger Pop-Up

Is there a more perfect combination than burgers and beer? We sure can't think of one.

Join us this Sunday, May 27, as we welcome Lucy's to the Ardent Craft Ales beer garden for a burger pop-up over Memorial Day weekend!

They'll have three delicious burgers to choose from: Steak House, The Ward, and Traditional. All meat is grass fed, grain finished, and locally sourced from Monrovia Farm, so you know it's going to be great.

Fourth Anniversary Block Party

We’re so excited to celebrate our fourth anniversary with you, RVA! We’re shutting down Leigh Street to throw a massive block party featuring 25+ guest breweries, all your favorite Ardent beers, live music, and food trucks! Saturday, June 16, 12-8 p.m.

Guest taps will feature a variety of breweries from within Richmond, around Virginia, and out of state. We’ll announce specific breweries in the coming weeks, but trust us, you’re going to want to save the date.

Plus, we’ll be releasing a special anniversary beer to mark the occasion!

Best of all, our anniversary party is FREE to enter! Beverage tickets will cost $6 per pour, while food vendors will handle their own sales individually. We’ll also have soda, juice, and water available.

We’re going to keep the party going rain or shine! Kids & families welcome, 21+ to consume alcohol. No outside food, beverages, or coolers will be permitted. Friendly dogs are welcome as long as they remain leashed!

Introducing IPA X

We’re thrilled to introduce our newest core brand to the Ardent lineup: IPA X! Our brewers have experimented with different recipes, processes, hops and more between our rotational IPA and Hazy IPA batches over the past four years, all of which have culminated in our newest beer.

IPA X is double dry hopped with Citra and Mosaic hops, an exciting combination that provides big citrus and tropical fruit notes in both aroma and flavor. This juicy beer pours a cloudy, deep golden color, with super low bitterness and a silky soft mouthfeel.

Look for IPA X on draft in the Ardent taproom beginning tomorrow, Thursday, May 17!

Fourth Anniversary Block Party

We’re so excited to celebrate our fourth anniversary with you, RVA! We’re shutting down Leigh Street to throw a massive block party featuring 25+ guest breweries, all your favorite Ardent beers, live music, and food trucks! Saturday, June 16, 12-8 p.m.

Guest taps will feature a variety of breweries from within Richmond, around Virginia, and out of state. We’ll announce specific breweries in the coming weeks, but trust us, you’re going to want to save the date.

Plus, we’ll be releasing a special anniversary beer to mark the occasion!

Best of all, our anniversary party is FREE to enter! Beverage tickets will cost $6 per pour, while food vendors will handle their own sales individually. We’ll also have soda, juice, and water available.

We’re going to keep the party going rain or shine! Kids & families welcome, 21+ to consume alcohol. No outside food, beverages, or coolers will be permitted. Friendly dogs are welcome as long as they remain leashed!

Bohemian Pilsner release

Bohemian Pilsner is back! Join us on Thursday, May 24 for the release. #neverstoplagering

Our brewers love drinking lagers, and they’re excited to brew a classic European style right here in RVA. Bohemian Pilsner is a traditional Czech pilsner, brewed with a simple recipe of Czech floor malt, Saaz hops, and a Czech lager yeast. Bo Pils pours a clear golden color with soft mouthfeel, spicy hop notes, and clean finish.

4.8% ABV • 27 IBU

Weissbier release

We've got a brand new beer release TOMORROW! Join us on Thursday for our Weissbier release.

Weissbier is a traditional, German-style wheat beer brewed with 100% German wheat, malt, hops, and yeast. Weissbier pours a cloudy, deep golden color, with citrus and vanilla notes in the aroma and classic clove and banana character. The 50% wheat base provides a soft, creamy mouthfeel in this highly effervescent beer.

5.2% ABV • 16 IBU
